ANSO–ATES konferencia

(ANSO Silk Road Forum – The 2nd ATES Open Science Conference) beszámoló

All three members of our research group played an active role both as organizers and presenters at the ANSO–MTA Silk Road Forum & 3rd ATES Open Science Conference, held between 9 and 10 September 2025.

As a continuation of the conference hosted in Lanzhou, China, in 2023, this year’s distinguished international event was jointly organized by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) and the ELTE Research Centre for the Humanities. Eötvös Loránd University also acted as a collaborating partner, with our research group members assuming responsibility for several specific organizational and administrative tasks.

The main results of our ongoing research were presented to an international audience of well-known scholars on the second day of the conference. Krisztina Kinga Hoppál delivered a presentation entitled “Rethinking Archaeological Methodologies for Cross-Cultural Interactions along the Ancient Silk Road,” while Melinda Pap and Gábor Péter Boros jointly presented the key findings of our linguistic and Sinological studies in their lecture, entitled: “Misreading the Ancient Silk Road: Challenges in Interpreting the Roman Empire in Pre-Sixth-Century Chinese Texts.”

In addition to her presentation, Krisztina Kinga Hoppál was invited to serve as session chair of the panel “Silk Road Culture and Language Studies,” held on the afternoon of 10 September. The presentations of our group generated considerable interest among the attending researchers and were followed by stimulating academic discussions, which are expected to foster potential future collaborations.

Our research group was also represented at the post-conference workshop, an exclusive event accessible by invitation only, which provided an excellent opportunity for further professional exchange and networking.
